Solid Edge offers a fully integrated environment for sheet metal part development. The entire process can be mapped within one system:

2D sketch → 3D sheet metal model → flat pattern → drawing → CAM output

The sheet metal environment supports, among other things, base, contour, and polyline flanges, joggled flanges, hems, stiffeners, cutouts, embossments, as well as drawn and formed cutouts.

Manufacturing-relevant properties are taken into account during the design phase. Based on defined material and bending parameters, the appropriate flat pattern is automatically generated.

Solid Edge supports common calculation methods for this, such as:

  • K-factor
  • Bend allowance
  • Bending allowance

Material, sheet thickness, inner radius, tooling, and other parameters can be individually taken into account. The generated flat patterns can then be exported as DXF or DWG files for laser, punch, and CNC machines.
